70th Anniversary
Seven Decades of Maritime Excellence
Near the water’s edge in Washington’s Skagit Valley stands a lasting testament to craftsmanship and family tradition. In 2025, Rozema Boat Works celebrates 70 years of continuous operation—an unbroken chain of maritime expertise spanning three generations of the Rozema family.
From Holland’s Harbors to Bay View’s Shores
The story began in 1955, when master shipbuilder Alle Rozema emigrated from Holland and established his namesake company in the quiet coastal community of Bay View, Washington. Having managed large-scale shipyards in Europe, Alle brought with him centuries-old traditions of boat building, integrating time-honored techniques with forward-looking engineering.
His vision was straightforward yet ambitious: to build vessels that were both durable and purposeful, whether for commercial fishing, recreation, or specialized marine applications. His precision in lofting and hull design quickly earned Rozema Boat Works a reputation for producing boats that could withstand the challenging waters of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
Passing the Torch
In time, Alle’s son Clarence took the helm. Under his leadership, the company expanded its capabilities while preserving the uncompromising standards set by its founder. Rozema Boat Works’ reputation spread throughout Puget Sound and beyond, attracting clients who valued the blend of old-world craftsmanship and modern functionality.
Today, the third generation—brothers Dirk and Jason Rozema—carry that legacy forward. Raised in the shipyard, they absorbed the skills of hull shaping, joinery, and marine systems from an early age. Their stewardship continues to balance tradition with innovation, ensuring that every vessel launched reflects the pride of their family name.
Looking Ahead
As Rozema Boat Works enters its seventh decade, it remains Skagit Valley’s oldest continuously operating boat builder. Each vessel launched from their yard carries forward Alle Rozema’s original vision: a union of maritime heritage, engineering excellence, and the enduring values of family craftsmanship.
